Yarns to Dye For
by Kathleen Taylor

This book reads like a conversation between friends over a pot of tea and freshly baked cookies.  Kathleen Taylor has written a delightfully fun book to read and to spark your colorful imaginations!  Her humor and personal insights are helpful as well as entertaining.

Kathleen gives very thorough and easy to follow instructions on how to prepare, skein and dye one-of-kind self patterning yarns.  As usual, Interweave Press has included many clear, helpful photos and illustrations.  Even a first time dyer will be able to follow along and create wonderful skeins of yarn.  There are also ideas and techniques that will inspire the experienced dyers out there.  Included are many suggestions for rigging inexpensive equipment from normal household items.

The second half of the book contains step-by-step instructions to make projects from socks and mittens to pillows.  The instructions are complete with the dyes used, both brand names and color names, the yarns used and how to apply the colors to achieve the pattern desired.  To finish each project, Kathleen includes knitting and finishing instructions.

I highly recommend this book for people who enjoy dyeing and working with colorful, unique yarns.  This would be a great resource book for a spinning or knitting guild that wants to do some group projects or dyeing parties too!
