Funky
Knits
By Carol Meldrum
& Julie Marchington
This book is geared towards high school through college age
knitters. The patterns are very unusual and may not appeal to
a wider range of knitters. The feel is retro-hippie
throughout the book, using a lot of color on the pages and geometric
shapes.
This would be a good book for a younger knitter who is just
learning. (And since many of the patterns
are made to look ‘wrecked’ anyway… an
honest mistake or two will hardly look out of
place!) The
knitting instructions and ‘how-to’ lessons are very
well written and easy
to understand. The section on yarns and equipment is well
illustrated and progresses logically into the
‘how-to’ lessons.
Some of the more original patterns are iPod covers, knitted cacti and a
guitar case. There are also some wearable items like
sweaters, a party
dress and scarves. The use of color and unusual elements are
again
geared towards the teenage crowd.
